Meet Tarwirri Member Matthew Karakoulakis

 

Matthew was born and raised on Kaurna Country, his heritage is linked to Narungga and Kokotha. He is a commercial lawyer and founder of AMK Law, a multi-award-winning boutique law practice. Prior to AMK Law, Matthew gained experience working in government and in a top tier law firm.

How long have you been a member of Tarwirri?
I have been a member for over five years.

Why did you join Tarwirri?
To connect with and support other First Nations lawyers and promote diversity within the legal profession.

How has Tarwirri supported you over the years?
Tarwirri has been instrumental in networking, providing mentorship, and fostering opportunities to advocate for community issues.

Why did you decide to study law and become a lawyer/legal professional?
To empower small businesses through legal compliance and advocacy, ensuring community growth and the creation of local employment opportunities.

What area of law do you find most interesting?
Commercial law, as it allows me to directly support and empower small businesses, fostering community development.
