Tarwirri is dedicated to keeping your information private. Tarwirri takes its duty to safeguard and manage your personal information seriously. 

The Information Privacy Principles in the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic) and the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) bind Tarwirri. Tarwirri's practises for gathering, using, disclosing, and handling personal information are governed by these Acts (Privacy Law). Tarwirri may occasionally sign contracts committing to upholding additional privacy responsibilities. This privacy statement explains how we manage and safeguard your private information, including any sensitive data. It could be necessary for us to evaluate and modify this policy periodically. This policy is subject to modification at any time. 

Please remember that this policy should be read in conjunction with any other privacy notices we may provide to you when we collect your personal information, such as our Privacy Collection Notices. 

Terminology 

In this policy, the expressions ‘we’, ‘us’ and ‘our’ refers to Tarwirri. The expressions ‘you’ and ‘your' refer to individuals whose privacy information Tarwirri may handle from time to time. 

References to the terms personal information and sensitive information have the meaning used in the applicable Privacy Law. Broadly, personal information is any information about an individual who is identified or whose identity is reasonably ascertainable. It includes sensitive information, which is information about, for example, an individual’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, and criminal record. 

What personal data does Tarwirri collect? 

Personal data will only be gathered by Tarwirri if it is pertinent and reasonably required for us to carry out our duties. Our efforts are primarily directed at advancing the Treaty process, including increasing public support and involvement. The following categories of information are among the types of personal data we may gather about you: 

Your contact information, such as your home address, email address, and phone number; your personal information, such as your name, age, gender, date of birth, and information identifying your race or ethnicity; and any other facts that make you immediately identifiable. 

Tarwirri may take pictures as part of its routine tasks, such as at gatherings for community participation. If photos will be taken at an event, you will be made aware of it before it starts and will have the option of declining to have your photo taken. 

Sensitive Information 

Your sensitive information, which is a subset of personal information, may be gathered by Tarwirri. When we ask you for sensitive information, we will ask for your permission unless the Privacy Law specifies otherwise. 

How does the Tarwirri collect your personal information? 

We gather personal data in a variety of methods, such as: 

  • when you get in touch with us by phone, email, websites, or another method; and 

  • by filling out paperwork; 

Typically, Tarwirri will obtain personal data directly from you. However, there are situations when we must obtain data from a third party. Tarwirri will take reasonable steps to tell you or make sure you are aware that it obtains personal information from a third party. 

Storage and security of the information  

Tarwirri makes a reasonable effort to prevent unauthorised access, improper use, loss, alteration, and disclosure of the personal information we have on file. Both hard copy and digital versions of your personal information are on file with us. 

In the event of a data breach, Tarwirri will alert the impacted parties and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if a data breach that is "notifiable" under privacy law occurs. A data breach is defined as one that could cause any of the people to whom the information relates to suffer substantial harm. Serious injury can involve serious reputational harm as well as serious financial, psychological, emotional, and physical harm. 

Links to third-party websites and services 

Links on our website can be followed to other websites and services. Whenever you access links to websites or services outside of our web domain, you will leave our website and proceed to a web page under the control of a third party. When this has been completed, Tarwirri’s privacy practices and this policy no longer apply, and the third-party policies, etc., will be applied.  

Unless stated differently, Tarwirri 

  • are not linked with or otherwise connected to the owner or operator of any third-party website, do not support or authorise the content of any such third-party website, and 

  • take no duty or responsibility for the functionality or performance of any service or facility provided on any third-party website or for the state or content of any third-party website.  

Google Analytics  

Google Analytics is used on our website to track specific visitor behaviours and compile visitor data. 

Google Analytics anonymously analyses how visitors use the website, including other websites they visited just before arriving there, what they did there, and whether they made any purchases there, like signing up for our newsletter. 

Our website may collect technical data, such as your IP address, the kind of device you are using to access the website, device attributes, browser type, language, and operating system, as well as other details like the URL you came from and the web pages you visited before the website. Cookies are also used on our website. Such material could be considered personal information under Privacy Law.
