Tekan Cochrane

Executive Officer

Tekan is proud Kooma and Yuwaalaraay with Torres Strait Islander heritage. Tekan was previously a Senior Legal Policy Officer at the Department of Justice and Community Safety, playing a vital role in the creation and management of the Victorian Stolen Generations Reparations Package, which included advising government and working closely with traditional Elders and Stolen Generations.

Tekan commenced her legal career as a Solicitor on behalf of the Crown at the Office of Public Prosecutions Victoria. Tekan recently completed a Masters of International Relations focusing on Indigenous Peoples.

She is also a law and justice sessional academic at Victorian universities, a Non-Executive Director with Women of Colour Australia and is the co-chair of the Law Institute of Victoria (‘LIV’) Reconciliation Advancement Committee and a member of the LIV RAP Working Group. Tekan enjoys mentoring law students and new lawyers.
